The Cancer Blog retires
The choice to stop publishing these three blogs is a business decision, and has nothing whatsoever to do with their quality. I am, and everyone here is, deeply grateful to the bloggers whose dedication to these sites gave so much information and inspiration to thousands of people. These three blogs are among the longest-running properties in our network, and it is sad to let them go.
Thank you to our many readers for visiting us, and sharing in the community here.

(Page 2)23. Sometimes the blogs seem to run on controversy, and while cancer certainly inspires some controversy, on the whole this site has been a friendly community. Maybe that's just not good enough to drive traffic, and therefore enough to justify the expense. Check out the neighboring blog, www.Thatsfit.com . The good, valuable medical info seems to pass virtually unnoticed, while articles about obesity, many with a provocative, thin-people-against-obese-people slant, get comments in the hundreds. Sigh.
I'll miss thecancerblog.

29. Sad to see this resource go. There is always a need for quality information, but that comes at a price, so the economics behind this decision aren't entirely questionable.
For emotional support from others who have 'been there, done that', I use Experience Project (http://www.experienceproject.com), which was just profiled in this blog a few days ago. For encyclopedic information, it is hard to beat Wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.com).
30. I am VERY sorry and dissapointed to read that The Cancer Blog is retiring due to a "business" decision. I counted on this blog to be my one-stop area to read everything about ALL types of cancer. I found this blog interesting because it was straightforward, smart and it included so much informative stories that were beneficial. I am sorry but other blogs to me are just "personal" opinions and usually does not encompass ALL cancer types.
To me it sounds like a COP out. A "business decision" equals it's not making money, so pull the plug!

31. One more thing, it is in VERY poor taste for this "Ryan" guy to advertise his offensive, tacky "Chucklenut" t-shirt store HERE in order to make money for himself. NO, I will not spread the word. Posting your site is certainly NOT an alternative to the Cancer Blog!

33. I don't believe it was a business decision to terminate this and the other two medical blogs. I believe it was a personal decision. The intelligent writers who post on these blogs, and some of the commentators, were too free-thinking and had lost their independency from so-called "established" norms. When one doesn't "tow-the-line" of the establishment, you lose that independence.

34. Ah, businesss is business. I'm sure the site simply wasn't getting enough traffic. Check the so-called sister blog, thatsfit.com--they get HUNDREDS of comments on posts about obesity, mostly nasty. Businesses like aol know that you have to play to lower common denominators to drive enough traffic to keep your ad revenues up. And that leaves valuable sites like the cancer blog out in the cold.

35. This was a wonderful blog. Sad to see it go. While it's not a daily blog, there are two magazines for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. CURE is for the newly diagnosed (www.curetoday.com) and Heal:Living Well after Cancer is for survivors. Another good cancer blog is Dr. Len's of the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/aspx/blog). He has a lot of insight on cancer issues and puts them into perspective that the mainstream media often glosses over or just gets wrong.
37. What is your problem Michelle (hchcec)? You're a pathetic twit! You should consider getting some psychiatric help! You've been a pain in just about everybody's rump on this site, critizing just about every writer's post and any commentators that don't have "flat earth" ideolog theories like you have. One just needs to look at your diatribe in the second to last posting on this blog! Seriously, at first I thought you were humerous and entertaining but I really think you need help.

38. Pawelski:
"I don't believe it was a business decision to terminate this and the other two medical blogs."
Pawelski thinks he was "too freethinking" and it's because he was such a maverick that the establishment had to shut down the blog.
Freethinking? Nah, Pawelski. You do misinform. That's true. But, to shut down the blog because of YOU?
How is it that your head got so big?
Your paranoia is manifesting again. :-)
39. Wow! You do have a lot of paranoia Michelle hchcec! Seriously, do seek help!

40. If you are smart or have a strong stomach, you do a search for the causes, effects, symptoms, treatments, outcomes, support groups, and residual fallout of cervical cancer. You might find statistics: 500,000 cases worldwide; 300,000 die. 10,370 in US will be diagnosed with it; 3,710 will die. Mortality rates have declined by 50% over the last three decades.
