Merv Griffin treated for prostate cancer recurrence

Merv Griffin, inventor and producer of TV game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, has been hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer. The cancer was discovered during a routine examination several weeks ago.

Now in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the 82-year-old Griffin says, "I'd rather play Jeopardy! than live it. I was ready for a vacation; however, this wasn't the destination I had in mind."

Griffin's son, Tony, said his father is getting great care. His medical team wants to monitor his progress in a controlled setting, he said, and that's why he's in the hospital.

According to TV Squad, Griffin has another game show in the works. Let's Play Crosswords will premiere in syndication across the country this fall.

3. Merv, I had recurring prostate cancer in 2005, and went to Loma Linda Univ Med. Ctr. for 8 1/2 weeks, only 2 minutes a day, felt fine the whole time; there are not the usual side effects of regular radiation, like damage to nearby organs, etc. You owe it to yourself to check it out even though Cedars-Sinai is very good. Go to www. llumc.edu.com . They are great!! Please do it; myPSA has been 0.03, almost undetectable for over a year and a half now. Jim

6. my hubby was diagnosed with stage 4 advanced prostate cancer in Nov of 2006. His PSA was 312. He had 14 cancer biopsies, 39 radiation treatments anf then after that continues to take Casodex....his check up after radiation was a non dedectable PSA....how long does it take to re occur afte the initial diagnosis>

7. I am curious as to Merv Griffin's initial treatment. Did he have a radical prostectomy, radiation or something else.

8. This is the fallacy of doctors everywhere. They don’t call you for long term follow-ups after initial treatment success. Same happened to Senator Edwards’s wife - she never had long term follow-ups, and caught her recurrence way too late. Reoccurrence can happen anytime from several months later to several years. One person I know had a recurrence 10 years later. Fortunately, he was doing follow-ups during that entire 10 year time and caught it early, and treated it successfully again. 9. My husband just completed his prostate cancer treatments at Loma Linda Hospital too. Protons!! The hospital is amazing and we too highly recommend Proton Treatments for Prostate Cancer. I also was wondering what kind of radiation treatment Merv Griffin had?
